“Beloved, I urge you as sojourners and exiles to abstain from the passions of the flesh, which wage war against your soul. Keep your conduct among the Gentiles honorable, so that when they speak against you as evildoers, they may see your good deeds and glorify God on the day of visitation.” – 1 Peter 2:11-12
The spirit VS. the flesh—it is a constant battle, whether we actively see it or not. Just as the Dark Side in Star Wars encourages people to “give in to their hate” to find power, the lusts of our flesh pull us to give in to our desires to find happiness and fulfillment. Ultimately, though, this is all a lie. Where we think we will find happiness, fulfillment, or power, we are eventually met with enslavement.
Unlike in Star Wars, however, we don’t center ourselves around some strange mysticism and the ghosts of past great people as Luke and others did with the Force. No, in our battle against the flesh and its lusts, we must keep ourselves aligned with Scripture and in tune with God’s desires for us. In so doing, we will be equipped to live out our lives as sojourners for the Lord and be able to point others to His glory through our actions.
