The American Miracle: Our Nation Is No Accident opens in theaters June 9–11, 2025!
This motion picture tells the forgotten story of God’s providence in the founding of the United States and the inspiration that led to the Constitution. With historically accurate accounts and documented source material, this film presents compelling evidence of what Benjamin Franklin acknowledged when he said that God “governs in the affairs of men.”
Inspired by Michael Medved’s book The American Miracle, this docudrama is an important reminder to be thankful for our freedoms as we prepare to celebrate the 250th anniversary of America’s founding.
What Leaders Are Saying About The American Miracle Movie
“The American Miracle is a stirring tribute to the role of divine Providence in the founding of the United States of America. This powerful film reminds us that God’s hand has guided our nation through every trial and triumph. I believe every American—young and old—will be inspired by The American Miracle and its message of faith, freedom, and providence.”
— Mike Pence, 48th Vice President of the United States, 50th Governor of Indiana
“America is something that I hold in my heart and am not sorry about it… And if we don’t do something that arouses a feeling of protection and love of country and the values that we loved, supposedly love in every part, in every family, if we don’t get that back, this country will not be anything like America.”
— Richard Dreyfuss – Academy Award-winning Actor and Commentator
“The American Miracle is a must for all patriots. Michael Medved has created an epic, harkening back to the epics of Homer and Virgil, overcoming impossible odds to gain a predetermined destiny.”
— Ronald Drez – Capt. USMC Vietnam War, Company Commander, Award-winning Author
The American Miracle walks viewers through key turning points of the American Revolution, offering a fresh perspective on our history and reminding us why we still say in our pledge, “One Nation Under God.”
Why Study American History in a Classical Christian Homeschool?
As classical educators, we study history not just to memorize facts but to seek wisdom. We learn from others’ triumphs and failures, using their stories to shape our children’s understanding of virtue, freedom, and responsibility.
But most importantly, we study history to trace the fingerprints of God through time. American history is no exception. In our homeschool, we read with the conviction that God is the author of all truth, and His providence can be seen from the Mayflower to the Constitution and beyond.
Make History Come Alive with Classical Activities
History doesn’t have to be dry or disconnected. Here are five ways to make learning American history with The American Miracle movie dynamic and meaningful for students at every stage—from Foundations to Challenge:
1. Narration and Copywork
Have Foundations students retell key events from The American Miracle in their own words or copy quotes from historical figures like Washington or Franklin to build handwriting and memory skills.
2. Timeline Projects
Assign students to create detailed timelines that place the events depicted in the movie alongside other global historical events. Use the Foundations Timeline song as the springboard for this activity. This helps students see God’s hand across time and nations.
3. Socratic Discussions
Encourage dialectic and rhetoric students to attend to the film’s themes through discussion. Ask questions like, “What role does providence play in government?” or “Can liberty exist without virtue?”
4. Original Document Analysis
Use source material shown in the film as a bridge connecting faith and freedom. Let students read the Declaration of Independence or the Federalist Papers to evaluate how faith influenced the Founders. This is a great complement to Challenge I, where students annotate the Constitution.
5. Creative Expressions
Have students compose poems, write journal entries from the perspective of a colonial patriot, or even produce a short reenactment inspired by the movie. This could be the inspiration for a future Essentials Faces of History project.
A Nation Built on Purpose
As homeschool families, we have the privilege of teaching the facts of history and the meaning behind them. The American Miracle reminds us that our nation’s story is not one of chance but divine orchestration. Let this film ignite a renewed sense of purpose and patriotism in your homeschool.
Turn The American Miracle movie into a family event that strengthens both faith and understanding of America’s roots. From your youngest Foundations student to your oldest Challenge teen, this film provides a starting point for conversations about God’s sovereignty and the responsibilities of citizenship.
