Perhaps you have successfully taught your children through elementary and middle school, but now the time you have been dreading has finally come—high school. Leah Bromen, who had many doubts about whether she would be able to homeschool her children through high school, offers some encouragement for those feeling similarly.

God Will Support You
If you think God has called you to homeschool your children, don’t give up! He will provide the resources that you need to see His plan through. For instance, with a God-given community around you, one with parents also figuring out how to homeschool their children through high school and who you can walk alongside in your journey, you can certainly do this.
No One Loves Your Own Children More Than You Do
You haven’t given up on them yet! From teaching your children how to tie their shoes to teaching them that 2+2=4 and helping them with long division, you have been teaching your children all their lives. It’s no different in high school. Yes, the subject content is more difficult to teach, but that’s where having a community of other homeschoolers really helps! You may have an inclination toward math, for instance, while another homeschooling parent may have a strength in English. So, you can help her children with math while she helps yours with English! Remember that you don’t (and, in all honesty, actually can’t) do this alone. You need those God has placed in your life to help guide and support you.
The High School Years Are Where the Fruit Is
After putting years of hard work into homeschooling your children, you don’t want to give up in high school! For many parents, this is their favorite season. The students become self-learners, for instance, which means they are often able to learn on their own without your help, so you have more free time than when teaching the elementary and middle school years. In addition, you get to see the result of your children’s earlier education in shaping them into young adults who are able to think critically and engage with the world on a deeper level, which is really quite amazing to see.
How Can You Apply This to Your Life?
Trust in God to provide to get you through, find a community if you don’t already have one, and homeschool through high school! We think that you’ll find that it is worth the effort, from seeing the results of both your own and your children’s hard work in the elementary and middle school years paying off as they grow into the people God has called them to be.
