Have you ever thought about directing a Classical Conversations program? Perhaps you’ve been inspired by the leadership of the Directors in your local community and are interested in learning how to become a Director. Or, maybe you’re not yet part of a Classical Conversations community and interested in starting one in your area. In either case, directing is a wonderful opportunity to support both students and parents in the homeschooling journey.
Directing: A Joy and a Blessing
Chelly Bernard, a former Challenge Director now employed at Classical Conversations MultiMedia®, our sister publishing company, shares her story about the blessings of directing in the video below:
Directing is a Blessing to the Students
In her story, Chelly describes how it can be easy to get discouraged about “young people these days.” With the current state of public education, it’s understandable that the future can cause concern.
However, when she became a Director of a high school level Challenge program, her worries about the next generation subsided. As she helped students prepare for debates, tackle difficult math problems, and read complex literature, she saw there is indeed hope in the next generation of lifelong learners.
At Classical Conversations, we are grateful to have the opportunity to equip Directors like Chelly with the training and resources to help lead students to be successful from kindergarten through high school. It is our prayer that through a well-rounded education rooted in a Christ-centered worldview, our students will be prepared to tackle the diverse and difficult challenges they will face as adults.
Directing is a Blessing to the Parents
In the video above, Chelly also talks about how she loved coming alongside parents in her local community and supporting them in the homeschooling journey. Whether it was helping parents prioritize their children’s assignments or encouraging them to persevere amidst difficult seasons, Chelly had the opportunity to serve these parents and be a blessing to them as a Challenge Director.
It was Chelly’s mission to ask the parents of students in her Challenge program how she can help to achieve their goals for their students that year. Then, on community day, Chelly was able to attend individually to each student and guide them toward accomplishing those goals. To see those families succeed, as Chelly puts it, “There is nothing like it. It is a joy and a blessing.”
Lead the Next Generation of Lifelong Learners
You might be thinking, “Well, that’s wonderful for Chelly. But I could never direct a community.”
Then you’d be surprised! Many Classical Conversations Directors have felt the same way in the beginning. The thing is, you don’t have to go at it alone. We are with you every step of the way, offering you support, guidance, training, equipping, and resources to help you succeed at directing a local community. You’ve got this, we’ve got you.
If you are considering directing, then first pray about it. If you are already part of a local Classical Conversations community, perhaps ask your Directors of the programs about their own experiences to see if directing would be a good fit for you. Finally, if the Lord is calling you to take on this role, don’t hesitate to get started in your directing journey and to lead the next generation of lifelong learners!
