The role of Classical Conversations^® Directors and Tutors extends beyond that of a teacher. Our goal is to reach deeper into the life of each student and parent, becoming both model and mentor.

A Leading Example

Throughout history, especially ages marked by higher learning, one person oversaw the education of a small group of students. In this discipling atmosphere, students studied all subjects under this one instructor, and learning thrived.

Observing this model, similar to the one-room schoolhouse approach of early America, the key to producing successful learners in Classical Conversations must not be based upon the relatively recent utilization of segmented master teachers. Rather we must take note of past success and aim to build student relationships with an inspirational mentor who focuses on the tools of learning as well as the unique life of each student.

For many families, understanding this one-room schoolhouse approach to education has greatly influenced a final decision to homeschool. Once they commit to schooling at home, they often begin looking for that inspirational mentor and other like-minded families. Because we value learning, the classical model, a biblical worldview, and community, they find CC programs to be a perfect fit.

The Role of Classical Conversations

In every CC program across the country:

• Our Foundations Tutors model learning the grammar of the core academic subjects while encouraging students and parents in their educational journey. They accomplish this by facilitating all aspects of the weekly, community class time.
• Our Essentials Tutors model learning the grammar of language, writing, and arithmetic, while also introducing parents and students to key “connections” or logic concerning each of these.
• Our Challenge Directors model logic and rhetoric skills, and encourage students to take on more and more leadership during weekly class time with the goal of having students exercise their developing logic and rhetoric skills.

As both models and mentors, CC Tutors, at every level of CC programs, inspire students and parents to learn because they participate in this transforming process themselves!
